* Got a commemorative pin for being in the top 10% of my graduating class. KT and I think it's equivalent to visiting a really cool place and coming back with a T-shirt that reads: "I was in the top ten percent of my class and all I got was this dumb teeshirt."

* Got a gold tassel. *strokes*

My own brother doesn't want to go to my graduation ceremony.

Mom: So, anyway, I'm not sure how many people can be seated in the bleachers at graduation. On our part, we've got Dad's folks, your aunt and uncle, your father and I, and your brother. So that's--

Brother: Wha--I'm not going!

Me: Uh, yeah, you are...

Bro: *ignores* Wait, when is this?

Mom: Next Thursday, I think it starts at 7--or was it 8?

Bro: No, I can't go, I'm going to play volleyball with the guys.

Mom: Um, no you're not. This is your sister's graduation and you ARE attending.

Bro: *rolls eyes, sighs petulantly* So HOW long is this thing?

Me: *injects* It's around 2 hours I think...I have to show up at 7, and then there's some party afterwards until 3 am--which you don't have to go to, of course.
Bro: Ugh. Why do I HAVE to come?

Dad: You're going because that is what families do: they SUPPORT each other. You can ask any kid at your school, if they have an older brother or sister that's in highschool, I'm willing to bet that they're going to see their sibling's graduation.

Bro: *apparently eager to take him up on this bet* No way, I'm gonna ask around for sure.

Mom: *angry* You know what? It doesn't matter if you find 5 or 10 or 50 kids that aren't going to their older sibling's graduation--YOU are going to your sister's.

Bro: *stews*

This...this friggin' hurt, guys.

Mom's first words were, "PRAISE THE LORD!" which made me LOL and then feel all giddy. I love having Midwestern parents.

Seriously, this is such a BLESSING. Now if I don't get the full-tuition scholarship, we still have something to fall back on and I won't be in debt for the rest of my life with student loans.

We don't need an excuse to celebrate in America. Apparently it's not as widely celebrated, or even celebrated at all, in Mexico?
Kind of like St. Patrick's, where 99% of Americans claim Irish background and go get wasted at the nearest bar/pub. =_=

Ah well, there's free food at Macayo's! :D
